This component has been designed to allow key regional and national institutions to acquire, analyze, store, and disseminate data on climate change and the impact on natural and manmade systems. It will facilitate access to the information on a wide range of public and private sector users and researchers, and will also serve to facilitate project management and monitoring and evaluation by linking Regional Archiving Centers with the data bases of the National Implementation Coordinating Units (NICUs) and the Regional Project Implementation Unit (RPIU).
Specific activities included under this component include:
- Management of the CPACC Website
- Training related to encouraging greater use of the Internet for communication as well as information access and dissemination therough the following activities:
- Provision of equipment to facilitate communication:
- National Focal Points were supplied with computers in 1997/1998 and again in 2001 to facilitate Internet access, communication and local coordination of CPACC activities
- Component 1 technical counterparts were provided with computers to facilitate Internet access to the data from the monitoring stations as well as to improve communication with the main component 1 institutions such as the Regional Network Coordinator (RNC) at the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) in Barbados and the Regional Archiving Center (RAC) at the UWI, St Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago (see the description of responsibilities for the RNC and RAC).
- The CIMH and the RAC were also provided with computing equipment in 2000 and 2001 to facilitate communicationa and data management responsibilities (see the Component 1 Website).
- Support to the implementation of Component 3 has also been undertaken, partcularly with the co-sponsoring of training workshops.
