Updating Country Specific Files (no Install Pack)

If ever changes are made to country-specific files - either the back-end attribute file (i.e. the file C:\Program Files\CRIS\<XXXX>\CRIS_<XXXX>.mdb ) or the ArcView files (i.e. contents of C:\Program Files\CRIS\<XXXX>\AvData) - then the changes to these files should be distributed periodically to all of the current CRIS users. The preferred way of doing this is to create a new Country Specific Install Pack. An alternative way, using only a zip file, is described in the following section.

As an administrator, initially you must zip up all of the new files from your computer that you wish to distribute to other users:

1.       Using Windows Explorer, navigate to your working folder C:\Program Files\CRIS.

2.       Right click, select New|Winzip, and create a new blank zip file called Cris_<XXXX>_Update.zip

3.       Double click on the file Cris_Update.zip to open the blank zip file.

4.       Resize the Windows on your desktop so that you can see both the blank zip file and Windows Explorer at the same time.

5.       Drag the folder C:\Program Files\CRIS\<XXXX> to the blank zip file; be sure that “Save Full Path Info” is not selected when you add the folder.

The file Cris_<XXXX>_Update.zip now contains a copy of all of the country specific files from your computer. You should put this zip file onto a CD. To update another user’s computer with these files:

1.       Ensure that a previous version of the CRIS User Interface and the CRIS Country Data have been installed on the computer using the original Install CD.

2.       Using Windows Explorer, rename the folder: C:\Program Files\Cris\<XXXX> as C:\Program Files\Cris\<XXXX>_old

3.       Using Windows Explorer, navigate to your CD and double click on the file Cris_<XXXX>_Update.zip

4.       Click on the Extract button, and select the folder C:\Program Files\Cris to extract all the files to. Be sure that “Use Folder Names” is selected.
