Each back-end database file contains a table called ArcView Linkages. This table contains the information that tells ArcView how to make joins and linkages between the Microsoft Access database tables and the database tables associated with the ArcView project. This table can be edited in the same way as other CRIS reference tables (see instructions under Updating Reference Tables). This table has the following structure:
1. ODBCName – The name of the ODBC source pointing to the Access database containing the table to be linked to. This will normally be the ODBC source installed for the country specific database (i.e. CRIS_<XXXX>)
2. Access Table Name – The name of the table in the Access database that is to be linked to by ArcView.
3. Access Field Name – The name of the field in the Access table to be used to make the linkage.
4. ArcView Table Name – The name of the database table in ArcView that is to be linked with.
5. ArcView Field Name – The name of the field in the ArcView database table that is to be used to make the linkage.
6. Type – the type of linkage to be made – one of the strings:
· Link;
· Join;
· Both.
Once
the ArcView
Linkages table has been edited, you must follow the steps under Updating
the ArcView Project to refresh and save those changes in ArcView.
