Strong leadership skills are essential for effective conservation. The communication skills and strategies of exceptional leaders are taught in this course in a friendly learning environment.
The Smithsonian Environ-mental Leadership course includes the exploration of topics such as Foundation Skills for the Environmental Leader, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution Strategies, Creating Compelling Futures, and Impactful Environmental Communication. The learning structure of the course is composed of demonstrations, background information, and personal and group exercises. Speakers and numerous case-specific examples are presented. Innovative scientific research and cutting-edge ideas for conserving resources and minimizing environmental impacts will have the desired effect if others are aware of them. With this in mind, participants in the leadership course learn how to improve their leadership skills, explore and enrich their personal leadership styles and effectiveness in communication and management, develop their natural leadership qualities and personal excellence through identification of vision and mission and recognize and understand the personal styles of others. After completing this course, participants return to the real world able to communicate their ideas in a highly effective manner.
