Caribbean

The Caribbean Disaster Information Network (CARDIN)

CARDIN was established in June 1999 to provide linkages with Caribbean disaster organizations, to widen the scope of the collection of disaster related information, and to ensure improved access to such material. The project is funded by the European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO). The Library of the University of the West Indies at Mona, has been selected as the focal point for disaster information in the Caribbean.

The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDERA)

CDERA is an inter- governmental regional disaster management organisation established in 1991 by an Agreement of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).Following the region's disaster experiences during the past few decades and the conclusion of the Pan Caribbean Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Project (PCDPPP) in 1991, Caribbean governments decided there was need for a permanent regional mechanism to coordinate regional disaster management activities.

Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)

The agricultural arm of the United Nations, headquartered in Rome. Site includes a list of current projects and priorities dealing with the possible agricultural, forestry, and fisheries impacts of Climate Change.

Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule; ETH) (Zürich, Switzerland).

ETH houses the Environment and Conflicts Project (ENCOP) focused on the "avoidance or peaceful settling of conflicts induced by environmental degradation." The Center also has a Subject page which includes an Environment/Resources list of links.

UNESCO

Environment and Development in Coastal Regions and in Small Islands (CSI)

CSI is a UNESCO programme launched in January 1996. Its goal is to assist Member States towards environmentally-sound, socially-equitable and culturally-appropriate development in coastal regions and small islands.

Intergovernmental Oceanographic Organization

IOC coordinates oceanographic research through a series of regional commissions around the world. The Caribbean Regional Commission is IOCARIBE, headed by Rafael Steer, in Cartagena, Colombia.

Land Ocean Interactions in the Coastal Zone (LOISCZ)

is the home page for the LOISCZ program of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Program, headquartered in The Netherlands. The site contains publication lists and pointers, contact addresses and additional information on program activities.
